Personal finance

A week in the life: Week beginning April 23

This post is a summary of content that is now being released via Instagram subscriptions. Subscribers get access to this content live via stories, and also get an extra Ask Me Anything each week to get your questions answered. (you can hit the “subscribe” button on my profile to join!)

Essentially, this shows you the nitty gritty of how I do personal finance / life every day, to set up for success, being a working mom to two young kids.

For context, I’m on maternity leave. My older child is in preschool. My younger is at home with me and not fully sleeping through the night. Most days I get by on 5 – 6 hours of interrupted sleep so working out is really important. I do most of the work below during my younger’s naps, or in the evening after they’ve gone to bed, totaling about 5 – 6 hours a day when I’m either on the computer or actively doing house work, and not focused on my kid.

Sunday

How you do Sunday is how you get set up for the week

  • Laundered a bunch of free items I received from Buy Nothing
  • I decluttered some items and put them up on Buy Nothing
  • Reached out and scheduled a networking chat
  • Spent about 90 minutes on meal prep after the kids went to bed – I made chicken tortilla soup, basmati rice, soy sauce chicken, and a pasta sauce. I rewrite recipes into my email and embed the portions as part of the recipe step

Monday

I look over my schedule for the week and coordinated with MIL when I needed her help to briefly watch DD (our younger child)

  • I worked out. Typically I time this during a super long nap for DD
  • I deposited rent from our NYC renters
  • Paid BB’s preschool tuition for next month
  • Put $5 on a few credit cards we don’t regularly use, but keep open for travel hacking
  • Began working on my coaching clients for the week
  • For a networking call the next day I prepped by reading some documents they sent over

Tuesday

Super super busy day with calls and coaching plans. I knew the day would be tight

  • I filed a credit card dispute against a merchant who did not deliver on services
  • I picked up a gift that I’d waited 5 years to gift myself – a lab created diamond necklace created by Bando Jewelry
  • I set up a job posting for babysitting for DD when we have an overnight in a different city. I found a few I wanted to interview, and I added calendar entries with questions I wanted to ask each of them. Once I found the sitter I liked I emailed her back to confirm date, time, rate + extras (in this case I’m also adding extra for dinner)
  • One of my coaching clients I knew had a great CPA and I got introduced. Sent some questions over, and determined I’d like to call them to learn more about their services

Wednesday

This was a major housework day

  • Laundered bedding
  • Vacuumed most of the house (hack: only do the dirty rooms!)
  • Mopped the kitchen floor (hack: I use microfiber cloths instead of a mop head because I feel it’s easier to rinse)
  • Prepared the online community for my Five Weeks to Abundance course
  • Meal prepped for Weds – Friday – beef theme. Chinese sauce beef & tofu, beef for a pasta sauce, and a beef curry. Also made tofu for BB’s lunches
  • Took DD to the pediatrician
  • Had my MIL watch DD for the hour when I held a Masterclass office hour
  • I could not make it to the gym, so I did a similar workout at home with free weights

Thursday

I began to fade a little today, not to mention I was still getting up 3 – 4x a night to tend to the 4 month old

  • BB dressed for picture day
  • Changed air filters throughout the house for health, made an email reminder via schedule send for the next round of filter changes
  • Wolfed down a protein heavy lunch due to my meal prep
  • Did a coaching call
  • attended a networking event

Friday

Today I did pass out from exhaustion at some point. So grateful MIL was around when it happened and she tended to the 4 month old

  • Went to pelvic floor therapy, feeling stronger already. I did not make it to the gym but we did a lot of working out at pelvic floor so I felt that counted
  • Did my Friday Ask Me Anything on Instagram
  • More set up of Five Weeks to Abundance – announced some incentives for the private community
  • Coaching call
  • Received drafts of our legal documents from Liu Shair Law as part of our estate planning process

Saturday

We had a day trip to San Diego. It was a lot of fun. Really glad it happened. I also prayed for numerous Instagram followers for infertility.
