In 2013, I began drastically pulling back on expenses while attempting to upgrade my career prospects to reach my goal of being work optional. While this journey looked like an overnight success, I spent much of the first year feeling imposter syndrome, lots of FOMO, struggling with my budget, and feeling like I can’t do it. I was unhappy at work and in my marriage. I knew the math of work optional, but I could not solve for how lonely and hopeless I felt.
Over time, I developed a system with roots in neuroscience and psychology, that turned every fear I had, into something joyful. This system uses two main mantras: “I Get To” and “Do It Scared”. Using these two simple phrases, and the supporting mental work that went into the system, I stopped feeling so stressed out. I stopped regretting the past. I felt less FOMO and less desire to compare myself to others. I became more confident at work, confident in my personal finance decisions. This was my journey to abundance.
Since 2017, I have seen hundreds of people have their lives transformed, using these mantras. This is called the Five Weeks to Abundance course.
I believe in this course because I still use the same system today to live a life centered on joy and peace. There is actually nothing wrong with you, this course embraces you for who you are, and teaches you how to shift your mindset. Once your mindset changes, everything else you have always wanted follows.

- You have been diagnosed with severe mental illness and are already being treated by professionals
- You are looking for a step by step financial plan to get debt free or save and invest for retirement
Course summary:
- Week 1: Course introduction, goal setting, daily abundance exercise
- Week 2: Learn a scientifically proven mind trick to break the cycle of negativity
- Week 3: Dive into my Trigger, Action, Reward framework, apply it to where you want abundance, using my life as an example
- Week 4: Bring everything together and acquire the same mindsets that launched my path towards becoming a millionaire
- Week 5: Optional guided No Spend Challenge, where you use the concepts from weeks 1 – 4 to save some money
Other things you should know:
Time commitment: You will need to set aside 5 – 15 minutes a day over five weeks to do this course. You will do the course completely on your own schedule, with email prompts from Shang and unlimited email support
Live course: May 1 – June 2, 2023. During this time period, the course includes a private coaching community, daily check-ins with Shang, and a Zoom webinar (recorded for people in different time zones)

About two years into my budgeting journey I took Shang’s Abundance Course. I had a somewhat realistic budget, but I felt stuck. This couldn’t be the end of my finance journey! The Five Weeks to Abundance course was a great experience for me. There are many things I have been able to accomplish in my life, but reframing my negative thoughts has always been a struggle for me – so much in fact that I rarely recognize or acknowledge the things I have been blessed with or all that good that occurs in my life.
