We’ve spent over $90K on what?

Since October 2020, the Save My Cents have spent more than $90K in total on…

Childcare. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m really happy that my children are in safe, loving, Christian environments for their upbringing. As of the current moment, we are likely to continue with private school or home school going forward. That being said, it remains our second largest monthly expense behind housing. Here’s the breakdown – as you can see, the 15 months we had BB in New York City were especially expensive (and also allowed us to realize it wasn’t sustainable to have two of them in NYC, especially as I was not going to continue working corporate).

I am a strong advocate for making sure you have a grasp on your personal finances and that personal finances should factor into your decision to have children. If you are not financially prepared for having kids, it is best to figure that out. If you cannot provide basics for your kids such as safe housing, healthcare, food, education, then something needs to change – either you don’t have kids, or you are willing to move to a much lower cost of living arrangement to make this work.
